1. Knew Wade Robson
There are no recent interviews or statements by Brett Barnes. That said, E! News reported that when he was 11 years old, Barnes was part of a press conference with Wade Robson. At the time, Barnes reported that his relationship with Jackson was not sexual. "He kissed you like you kiss your mother. It's not unusual for him to hug and kiss and nuzzle and stuff," he told reporters.
2. He never accused Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson's estate is suing HBO and director Dan Reed for airing the documentary and issued a statement in response to the Leaving Neverland allegations. The statement noted that the filmmakers did not interview people like Brett Barnes, who never accused Jackson of sexually abusing them. "Revealingly, the director admitted at the Sundance Film Festival that he limited his interviews to just these accusers and their families. In doing so, he intentionally avoided interviewing numerous people over the years who spent a lot of time with Michael Jackson and have unambiguously stated that he treated the children with respect and did nothing harmful to them. By choosing not to include any of these independent voices who might challenge the narrative he was determined to sell, the director neglected fact-checking in order to craft a narrative so blatantly one-sided that viewers never get anything like a balanced portrait."
3. He met Michael Jackson when he was 5 years old
Brett Barnes is 37 years old today. He has denied having sexual contact with Michael Jackson. According to the book Be Careful Who You Love: Inside Michael Jackson's Case , Barnes met the singer in 1987. He was five years old. He wrote a fan letter to Jackson and gave it to one of his backup dancers after a concert. Jackson soon got in touch with Barnes and they talked on the phone and became friends. Barnes and his family visited Neverland Ranch in 1989.
4. He has defended Jackson
When Jordan Chandler accused Michael Jackson of sexually abusing him in 1993, Brett Barnes was one of the children who spoke out in defense of the singer. In an interview, Barnes discussed the sleeping arrangement he and Jackson had. He said he "slept on one side of the bed" while Jackson "slept on the other" and Barnes also testified on Jackson's behalf during the 2005 trial. On the witness stand, he said Jackson "absolutely didn't" touched inappropriately.
5. Social networks
Brett Barnes doesn't seem to have much of a public presence on social media, except for an unverified Twitter and IG accounts that recently popped up to defend Michael Jackson. It is very unlikely that the Twitter and Insta accounts @IAmBrettBarnes are Brett Barnes.
"Not only do we have to deal with these lies, but we also have to deal with the people who perpetuate these lies. The fact that they don't do the small amount of research it takes to prove them to be lies, by choice or not, makes it even worse."
